    Default evo 8 ecu swap in a 2g

    ok I just finished the swap on a 96 mitsubishi eclipse spyder gs 2.4 4g64 engine, these are the wiring changes that have to take place...

    91 black silver dot remove
    87 yellow red stripe remove
    79 add pin for flash connector
    58 white silver stripe remove
    46 none to remove
    43 none to remove
    42 none to remove
    39 none to remove
    34 none to remove but moved pin 21 here
    32 none to remove but moved pin 20 here
    22 green silver stripe swap the pin 8 wire to this spot
    21 green black stripe silver but moved this pin to 34 open
    20 green brown stripe silver but moved this pin to 32 open
    16 none to remove
    8 white red stripe swap the pin 22 wire into this spot

    additional stuff I had to do

    added pin 82 for ignition +12v there was none on my 96 eclipse spyder gs 2.4 4g64 ( without this my car would crank but wouldn't start)

    Next I tried data logging with evoscan it wouldn't work , so I started testing wires . if you remove the white clip on top of the port were the wires go into the obd2 port you will see that it is labeled 1 thru 8 then 9 thru 16.

    ecu pin 56 (yellow silver dots) goes to pin 1 on the obd port (tested good)
    ecu pin 62 (pink silver dots) goes to pin 7 on the obd port (tested good)

    obd2 pin 1 goes to pin 56 on the ecu (tested good)
    obd2 pin 4 goes to gound (tested good)
    obd2 pin 5 goes to ground (tested good)
    obd2 pin 7 goes to pin 62 on the ecu side (tested good)
    obd2 pin 16 goes to +12v (wasn't getting any voltage) cut wire entirely and spliced +12v
    this fixed my data logging issue so now I have obd2 port functionality and can datalog.

    I was getting a cel after initial startup CEL p1603
    the fix I found was there was no +12v to ecu pin 80 cut and splice a +12v in

    now before I finish up soldering and tidying up I need to know the following, does obd2 pin 16 need constant +12v or a switched +12v does ecu pin 80 need constant +12v or switch +12v , does pin 82 new constant +12v or switched +12v . srs light is on what causes that to trip cause it wont go away.

    btw the car was idle serging before bouncing between 1000-2000 and now that is gone on the new evo 8 ecu car seems to be running alot smoother no idle serging.

    I'm running the 96530006 rom flashed into it because the rom my evo 8 ecu came with didn't have much support. I would like to try tephra's evolution 8 SD speed density patch on both my lancer and my eclipse but I still need to do some more digging and research before that takes place...

    Oh for those of you who dont know after swapping the ecu in you have to go in with ecuflash and change settings for maf , injector size , ect. using a tactrix cable / evoscan cable. This ecu setup gives you tons of tunability...

    flashing your new ecu so it will work with your engine

    1. With the Evo ECU hooked up, read the ECU using EcuFlash to determine the ROM ID. save you rom file make sure to add the .bin to it so it will be recognizable by ecuflash. If ecuflash automatically decodes it you can skip step 4b.
    2. After you have the ROM ID go into the rommetadata folder and edit the xml file that is for you specific ecu adding the below stuff...
    3. you will have to go out on the internet and find the xml file that decodes your rom file, once you have the xml file copy it into the rommetadata folder. open the definition XML file for that ROM ID that you just downloaded and add the following line just before the </rom>

    <table name="ECU Periphery00 Hex" category="Periphery" address="f9a" type="1D" level="2" scaling="Hex16"/>
    <table name="ECU Periphery0 Hex" category="Periphery" address="faa" type="1D" level="2" scaling="Hex16"/>
    <table name="ECU Periphery1 Hex" category="Periphery" address="fba" type="1D" level="2" scaling="Hex16"/>
    <table name="ECU Periphery2 Hex" category="Periphery" address="fca" type="1D" level="2" scaling="Hex16"/>
    <table name="ECU Periphery3 Hex" category="Periphery" address="fda" type="1D" level="2" scaling="Hex16"/>
    <table name="ECU Periphery4 Hex" category="Periphery" address="fea" type="1D" level="2" scaling="Hex16"/>

    4. Open EcuFlash, open the saved Evo ROM and look under the "Misc" category for the periphery bits.
    5. click the little checkbox beside the ones you want to change, and it will pop up in a little window. Click the edit then select all , click edit then change. Put the below information into your ecu...
    6. Change Periphery0 to 0x56D2

    other Periphry0 codes (im currently running the 56D0)
    56D0 -No rear O2 no Immobilizer
    5650-no rear O2, No immobilizer, No knock
    5658-no rear O2, No knock sensor
    56D8-no rear O2
    5698, no front or rear 02
    5690, no front 02, rear 02, or immobilizer
    56D2, No immobilizer

    7. Change Periphery2 to 0x0DDF

    - Changes a few things to not supported within the obdII scan when you get your car inspected , and allows you to clean up all the little vacume lines and solenoids hanging on the back of the intake manifold. It gets rid of all these CEL's P0443 , P0446 , P0403 , P0243 , P0090 , P2263 , P0450 , P0451 , P0452 , P0453 , P0441 , P0442 if your throwing any of them...

    8. Change Periphery3 to 0xC0C0
    9. Change Periphery4 to 0xFE00

    - Now the wastegate solenoid and fuel solenoid are disabled in the ECU. Without this step you will trip codes P0243 and P0090 for the missing solenoids.

    10. add the following values to make the evo ecu understand the 4g64 engine properly

    11. use the Save as and make an alternate filename that way you will always have a copy of the original , then write the ROM to the Evo ECU.

    The car should start and Idle now...From here you will need to do some datalogging and tuning to get your ecu dialed, this is done with a wideband, and a evoscan...

    not sure if you were asking me or the OP, but no i dont. i am running a T25 off a 2G (too small) and the evo 8 ROM reads the higher loads.

    yea, you get SD and the tephra v7 you get even more load cells and bigger map.

    speaking of you 3g eclipse how is the starter clearance with the t25? I did a 4g64 swap in my 2002 lancer es changed from a 4g94 over to a 4g64 , and did an evo 8 ecu swap on it as well. I looked into the dohc swap and turbo conversions for it but backed out because I want my lancer to be a stable daily driver and am pretty happy with the 4g64 performance in it... I'm building the 2g instead.

    the t25 clears no problem. i know the evo 8-9 16g has clearance issues and requires spacers to push it out far enough to clear, but i dont have any problems. i intend to upgrade eventually, the t25 is so small on that motor. i have no boost lag whatsoever and have a hard time getting traction off the line because it smokes the tires halfway through second gear. i would not reccomend the t25 on the 4g64 for those reasons alone

    well the nice thing though since you dont have clearance issues you can swap in a forced performance t28 , it will reuse everything you currently have and look exactly the same except it will flow more like the 16g... got any pictures or a build up thread I can drool over for a while...
