    Default Political Banter

Seems that a lot of threads that have to do with politics just keep evolving completely off topic. I figured I would start a thread solely for politics.

I'll start it with this, Fox is ending Glenn Becks show. No evidence as to whether he was fired or they just decided to part ways (I could only find left wing articles and Fox's press statement). I feel like he was just getting out of control with his "Doom is pending! You must pack up freeze dried goods for the break down of civilization!".

Seems like a good starting point. GO!

Glenn Beck is annoying. I read one of his books, basic stuff, but delivered in a condescending, pedantic, and smart-ass way. I couldn't imagine listening to him regularly.

So who watched the Obama budget speech? It appears as if the threshold of "wealthy" just got a lot lower, to the point where anyone who has a mortgage or makes over $50K/year now qualifies. I'm going to miss my mortgage tax deduction.

I missed it. I did read that Fox News tried to make a correlation between his budget speech at a college and a students suicide that happened around the same time. They have since removed the story by request of the school and the boys family.

I guess when your whole platform is based on the ignorance shared in the 20k tax bracket...

I just found this. I feel like this would be a great bill to force onto congress.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to
become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

    Congressional Reform Act of 2011
    1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below..
    A. Two Six-year Senate terms
    B. Six Two-year House terms
    C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

    2. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when
    they are out of office.

    3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security
system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system,
and Congress participates with the American people.

    4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will
rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same
health care system as the American people.

    7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is
an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators,
so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

The problem you're discussing is incentives. Anytime you discuss creating artificial incentives and disincentives, it creates the opportunity for cheating and abuse. (Just comes with the territory, probably a necessary evil)

I really don't think term limits do much more than force politicians to get as many good connections as possible while they're in power. Many people have noted that monarchies sometimes produce better results than democracies because the royalty in charge has an incentive to take care of their country in the long run so their children will inherit the throne of a healthy nation.

The bit about serving in Congress as being a moral duty, an honor might provide some better ideas. You could conscript citizens to serve a tour of duty in politics. You might get much better representation of the interests of the people if the congressman WERE the people, simple farmers, business owners, workers and mechanics, drafted into service as congressman for a few years.

You could also use a public referendum process as a check on public policies.

Prepare to have no balls. I have a bad feeling that a lot of idiots will vote for him.

I don't even try to follow politics anymore b/c I'm not a corporation, so politicians have nothing to offer me. I honestly ponder whether or not these people who think Palin or Trump would be great shouldn't just get their way. If we run it into the ground, we can start over and might actually dwindle down the corruption and lobbying (or are they pretty much the same entity?).

I agree trump won't get the nom., More than likely they'll give it to huckabee seeing as he's the most popular among the current choices, and the offical statment Glenn Beck gave about leaving FOX was a comparison between himself and paul rever( you know the guy that said the british are coming the british are coming) and how it was a personal choice so that he can "join the cause".

23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. - 2 kings 2.23-24 NIV....sometimes the bible is fun!
