Hello everyone,

Ive been reading for a while now but I finally decided I should start a build thread. So let me introduce you to my project. I have had my 99 Miata for a little over a year now. It is my newest toy and I love it dearly. I found it at a small dealer in morrisville. I was shocked at the condition of it. The car has more miles than I would have preferred (130k). But it has only had one owner prior to myself and had all the maintenance records. It is an NB LS so that means power everything, leather, and most importantlya 1.8 and a LSD!! At 5K i thought it was a deal, most of the nb's with similar miles were selling for 2k more at the time. Hell there was actually another 99 for sale somewhere in clayton and it had like 220k on it and dude was asking 5k. Long story short I bought the car bone stock on 4/18/11 and I have tried to modify it as the budget allows ever since.

I have only done a few things so far. Most of the mods I have done is in preparation for my future plans for the car.....BOOOOOSST! Lol. I sold my old supra in anticipation of buying a miata and turboing it so for now Im well on my way. I realized that since i was starting from scratch I would need to work on the chassis a little first before I threw a turbo kit on the car. So my short term plan is to add a rollbar, exhaust, clutch, coilovers, new tires, and finally boost! Ive gotten most of the way through the short term plan. So here are some crappy iphone pics.....

From when I first got the car (my DD can be seen too, its a 05 Spec V)

My first mod was my rollbar. I actually found it on sale on craigslist for cheap. I think I ended up getting it for like $350, it retails for like 500.00 :tongue001. Its a Hard Dog Hardcore Double Diagonal Hardtop Bar w/ harness tabs....I think. Either way all those words are in there, lol. Some mix of it all works out to the right name of it, haha. Pics of course!

Install...

^my buddy grinding the backing plates

Installed..

Tint..

It was then time for some new tires. Tires normally run about $500 or so bucks so I had a bright idea. I figured I could actually upgrade the wheels to the newer NB2 miata wheels for cheap. Turned out I was right. I was able to buy a new to me set of 16" OEM wheels and tires online for 300 shipped! It made the car finally look like the sports car I imagined. Sold my old 15's for 200.00 too! I'm pretty sure I will probably swap them out again eventually but I like them for now.

Next up was both a maintenance and a visual mod combined. I did quite a few things at once actually lol. I cleaned the engine bay, replaced my leaky valve cover gasket, sprayed my valve cover with wrinkle red paint, replaced the plugs, put R-Speed upgraded wires on and put a ebay special knock off racing beat intake on the car. Im not sure if the spark plugs or wires or intake were bad but it made the car feel like a different animal all together. It actually feels "perky" now as long as Im in the car by myself lol.

Then I decided I was tired of people trying to kill me on the hwy and that the car needed some more noise. So I got a Borla dual exhaust set up. The install was pretty easy. I was scared as hell to cut the bumper but it came out all right imo. The car was uber quiet when i first put it on and I was pissed about it, but after a few hundred miles it has wakened up quite nicely and sounds awesome. Car lost a few lbs as well which is always a plus. I only have the one crappy pic, sorry.

And my last round of mods/maintenance so far were to replace the inner shift boots that were torn (Tranny heat being allowed in the cabin of such a small car during the summer is unpleasant as all hell!), replaced tranny and diff fluid with Redline, moddiction anvil textured shift knob, and a Alpine new head unit. Only has one pic of it all lol. But great news is the tranny fluid makes the car shift like butter now. Im not really sure if it was the knob (weighs over 1lb supposedly), or the fluids being replaced but it was a nice nice change. Highly recommend that shift knob btw. The guy makes various styles and the prices are reasonable. Quality is awesome and shipping is fast!

Thats all that i have done so far. Next up will probably be the clutch and then the coilovers. Im pretty set on a flyin miata clutch, but unsure on the coilovers. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks for reading!

***I am in NO RUSH selling or Trading this car. CAR has been good to me for the last 5months in my hands. I am the second owner of this car with the new swap in it, It was pass down to me from my cousin and he would only drive this car on weekends because of the amount of cars he has. When this car was given to me, It was daily driven almost everyday. This car is very reliable and its great on long road trips as well. I went to PA and back with the integra and did not have any problems with the car while driving to PA. Integra's are known for getting great gas mileage on highways. Shifts smoothly, drives and handles great. If you have any questions or concerns please email me or contact me by phone. I don't get on forums that much these days due to my job and running 2 different business. So I'm pretty much busy during the day but if you contact me by text or email I will get back to you a lot quicker then on the forum. Reason I am selling or trading because I want something pretty much different. I believe there is someone out that will take of this car just as well as I did.I hope that I post all the pictures and be as descriptive as I can be about the car. ***

Carroll Hall Shelby, the Texan who created the famous Shelby Cobra and uncounted other high-performance machines that turned the auto world on its ear, and made it a whole lot more fun for 50 years, died in Dallas Thursday night at age 89. He had been hospitalized for pneumonia.

Shelby's famous pedal-to-the metal cars

Shelby's latest: The 1,100-horsepower Mustang

While perhaps best known now for his Shelby Cobras and Shelby Mustangs, the racer and car builder's signature accomplishment was the 1-2-3 finish in 1966 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ending Ferrari's then-domination of the event. Charged by Ford with making its GT40 racer competitive, he stuffed it with a 427 cu. in. V-8 and ran the table. Part of Ford's motivation in backing the effort was Enzo Ferrari's dismissal of Henry Ford II's attempt to buy the Italian carmaker.

But Shelby had first taken on the Ferraris and Porsches of the world on their own European sports car racing turf early in the 1960s with his original and now-legendary Cobras -- Shelby's innovative mating a Ford 289 V-8 with a lightweight British AC roadster.

Shelby, who affected the aw-shucks demeanor of the chicken farmer he once was, said, "I never made a damn dime until I started doing what I wanted."

What he wanted was, if you will, power for the people, automotively speaking.

"I love horsepower," he said more than once.

And he wasn't afraid of risk. "I've had a good run," he told Drive On two years ago. "I've built a lot of things that work and a lot of things that didn't work." He estimates that of the 165 car projects he tried, just seven or eight turned a profit.

Beyond his efforts in the small world of hot-rodding, Shelby influenced how Detroit automakers thought about high-performance, and he proved that hard work and bit of guile can make a hero.

But to achieve that, he had to jump from chicken-raising — his fowl all died of a disease one year — and into full-time auto racing, which he'd been doing on the side, in the 1950s. He was a success — at first continuing to wear the work overalls that he did as a farmer — and parlayed that reputation into a foothold as a car builder.

The litany of significant cars he created is long, running from the original 1962 AC Cobra — small British sports car with a big (for the times) Ford engine — through a sojourn at Chrysler and a stint with GM via a failed Oldsmobile-powered car, back to Ford. He was involved with development of Ford's GT 500 Mustang, the 2013 version of which is certified as the most-powerful regular-production car in the world.

His love affair put him into the orbit of industry giants of the time, as he more and more successfully showed car companies that powerful engines in lightweight cars was a viable and roadworthy combination on which he and they could make a lot of money.

He became good friends with Lee Iacocca who was president at Ford Motor when Shelby began as a car builder. The relationship continue when Iacocca moved to Chrysler.

Said Iacocca to Drive On today, lamenting the passing of his pal, who lived just two blocks away in Los Angeles: "He was a great friend. We did some good things together."

Iacocca serendipitously happened upon on a small dinner in a Los Angeles restaurant some years back, intended as an intimate schmooze between Shelby and a journalist. Iacocca plopped down at the table and he and Shelby started telling stories.

Among them, how the two began their relationship.

Iacocca said Shelby was pestering him for money to build the original Cobra, and was so persistent that "I finally gave him the money to get him out of my office."

Much later, in 2010, Shelby was facing two challenging phenomena: Mortality, and the changing nature of the go-fast auto business. At the time, he was taking 25 pills a day, tooling around in a motorized wheelchair and talking about passing the torch at Shelby American, the company he set up to build small numbers of exciting cars, as well as parts.

< p>He noted that extracting the most performance from an engine had become an exercise in computer programming, not tinkering. "I don't have the power to fight all the problems that I used to anymore," he said at the time.

"I've had a good run. I've built a lot of things that work and a lot of things that didn't work." He estimates that of the 165 car projects he tried over his lifetime, seven or eight turned a profit. Big enough, it seems, to keep the enterprise rolling.

His was a bold approach to car crafting that was too in-your-face for mainline car companies to conjure in-house. They let him come up with wild machines under their sponsorship, then refined them into cars the automakers could sell as high-performance halos.

Along the way he came up with a recipe for a mean bowl of chili, sufficiently infamous to spark an annual beat-this chili cookoff in Texas, and later even ventured into fashion timepieces.

He began his car building with subterfuge. Hoping to give the impression he was producing a lot of the original 1962 Cobras, he kept repainting the two he had built so car magazines would show them in a variety of colors.

And he had to fend off another giant, his eventual friend Robert E. Petersen, founder of Motor Trend and Hot Rod magazines, for the affections of a woman.

Petersen saw himself as merely taking advantage of an opportunity. Shelby recalled it as a work of infamy: "He'd tell her, 'You don't want to go around with a chicken farmer. And he'll lose (races), anyway'."

Rumors began circulating about a health problem when the affable auto man failed to appear as scheduled at the New York auto show in early April to promote his latest creations, the 950-horsepower Shelby 1000 and the 1,100-hp Shelby 1000 S/C.

Shelby published an update on his Facebook page in late April to say, in the vein of Mark Twain's "the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated," that he had been hospitalized for pneumonia, but was "resting comfortably with family and working on getting better.

Ok, alot of stuff is going on now. I've got some recent medical bills starting to build up and thinking about selling my truck, I don't have to. But if the right offer came, it will go and hopefully I can see it continue to progress...........

Anyways, its a 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody, 4cyl NapZ motor(8spark plugs) recently tuned up with new plugs, cap, rotor and wires, fuel filter, oil change every 3k miles and super reliable. It does have cold A/C, its been converted to R134 already. The only thing it works on the high setting, but its cold and will be great in the summer time. 5Speed trans shifts smooth with no grinds in it at all, Clutch grabs good still, just installed some decent 195/60/15 Goodyears on the wheels. I drive it everyday, I put 45k miles on it in the last year and half, drove it to FL and PA and back to NC with no issues. It is registered in FL and has a clean FL title.

If interested, hit me up at 407-474-6963 anytime. Shoot me a text before calling incase I'm at work during the day.

Thanks
Year - Make - Model - Trim Level (E.G. 1997 Honda Civic EX): 1989 Honda Civic Standard Hatchback
Miles: 233,193
Price: $3900
Title Type: Clear and in hand
Activities: Daily Driver
Smoked In?: No
Picture Included In Message: Box? (MUST have one picture minimum or thread will be deleted): Yes
The Bad: There aren't any real issues with this car, but there are a few things that could use some updating. The car still has stock suspension, and while it's not in terrible shape, the shocks do squeak a little going over bumps. The carpet is still the original blue color, and while I was going to swap it to black myself, I've just decided to sell as-is. One of the rear hatch strut threads has stripped itself, and the car is currently only using one hatch strut, but since they are new it’s not an issue.
The Good: This is basically a new car as far as the parts are concerned, as almost everything has been replaced or repaired within the past year. The following items are things that were done at approximately 227,203 miles:

The car has been repainted the original color and looks great!
New cat-back exhaust
A/C is working and has been converted to R134
New thermostat
New clutch
New front right axle
Timing belt and water pump have been replaced
Engine was torn down and rebuilt with new piston rings so it doesn't consume any oil
Brakes, hubs, and tires were also replaced less than a year ago
Acura Integra Mesh Wheels installed
All windows tinted including strip on front windshield

The following items have been replaced at various times which are listed below:

Stereo has been replaced with an Alpine CDE-1222 Receiver along with Polk DB651S speakers up front at 227,278 miles
New ignitor chip was installed at 227,506 miles
Transmission fluid changed with genuine Honda MTF, radiator cap replaced, oil drain plug with washer replaced at 227,525 miles
Throttle cable with new OEM Honda cable at 227,525 miles
Black Suede Headliner installed, interior repainted in black at 228,010 miles
60 Month battery installed at 228,716 miles
New valve cover gasket, spark plug seals, and valve cover grommets installed at 228,986 miles
New fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator changed at 232,970 miles
New OEM Honda main relay installed at 233,193 miles
New Ignition Coil installed at 233,193 miles
New Mishimoto Coolant and Heater Hoses installed
The car also comes with 89 Honda Civic SI front and rear seats

As you can see, this car has been well maintained, and I have a log of all the maintenance that has been done on the car to date. The only reason I’m selling is because I just don’t have the budget at the moment to really build this car like I would like. So it’s just been sitting in my garage for the past few months. I think it deserves a good home, and I’m sure someone will build it right! Anyways, on to the pictures:
Then last but off-topic you think 25k is worth it for the Scion frs and Subaru brz? Which would you buy? Both are rwd 2.0 boxer engines with 7500rpm and 200hp. Price difference is subbie is $500 msrp more. They due have a slight difference in suspension/tire setup with frs being a tad bit more slide happy. More or less than are the same car. It is more of a question of looks?
