i would try to heat it up (heat gun).. peel the top layer of tint off.. and the adhesive will be under that.. so all you will have to do is get some goo gone or something and take the adhesive off..

all u really need to try to take off is the tint peices.. if you lightly use a blade it will work.. just peel the top layer off.. you can take care of the adhesive with goo gone.. do not get the window to hot!

razor blade ftw. used it on my MR2 when i had the exact same problem. just razored right up to the defroster lines but you have to be very careful not to scratch them. i got new tint over it and it came out great. im sure any tint shop can help you out as well. might be worth it if you dont want to consume a shitload of time or if you will be taking it in to get retinted anyway. also, dont fuck around with acetone, i poured it straight on and it did nothing.

dude try a hair dryer if you dont have a heat gun to warm up the adhesive so its not as tacky and then pull it off piece by piece...michael says that autozone has this little kit just for tint removal...its like 9.99 and he can hook you up with his discount if you want it he is closing on friday goes in at 5 open till 10 on highpoint rd...

a razor blade to get the big peices off, then starting fluid to get the adhesive left over off.

I use a 50/50 mix of ammonia and rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive. Use a razor to get the corner of the tint off and peel it. You can use a scotch brite pad on the defroster lines and it won't hurt them.

Yea there is a great tint removal guide somewhere online. I had to do this to my civic after someone broke into the side window. I had rear defroster lines as well. I used an ammonia based solution sprayed over the tint on a HOT day and covered it in with a garbage bag so the solution would sit wet on the glass and not evaporate. Its a smelly awful job but eats away the adhesive so you can then lift up a corner and pull both layers off slowly. Then using fine steel wool to get off the left over adhesive.

Here read this: How to Remove window tinting from car windows

i tried the garbage bag thing like brandon said but i couldnt get it to work. perhaps it was because the workspace in an MR2 is somewhat constrictive or that the tint was really old and brittle?

on older film that is discolored and flaking like in your case, elbow grease and some simple green is your best case. use a non abrasive scotch brite and have fun. oh wait, its not fun.
